Monet in Giverny

Giverny is a small village on the right bank of the Seine, famous for its connection to its most famous citizen: Claude Monet, who chose to live here for 43 years, from 1883 to 1926, in a beautiful house that you can visit.

The town is 73 km away from Beauvais Tillé Airport by a winding state road, about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car. For this reason, if you arrive by plane, you could consider Giverny as the first or last stop on your trip to Normandy.

The main attraction of Giverny is undoubtedly the Monet Museum House with its Garden and, not far away, the park with the water lily pond. It is definitely worth a visit.

You can enter the intimacy of Monet’s house and visit the colorful rooms: such as the studio with his paintings, the dining room, the kitchen with copper pots, the bedrooms, and many paintings on the walls, many of which by Japanese artists.

There is no audio guide, only a few sparse information panels are available in the house.

The house is surrounded by a well-maintained garden cultivated with various species of plants: bulbous plants, climbers, and ornamental shrubs that guarantee a flowering cover all year round.

In addition, not far away, there is the Water Lilies Garden with a pond crossed by wooden bridges and gazebos adorned with wisteria: here, the famous Impressionist painter spent much of his time, finding inspiration for his unique paintings in the world.

A visit to the house takes about 25-30 minutes.

For the garden + the park with the pond of water lilies + Monet’s shop (very nice) no more than an hour. But the time is up to you. The museum’s large parking lot is a 10 minutes walk away.

The Monet Museum House is a very crowded place, especially in the summer. To avoid the line at the ticket office, purchase your ticket online in advance. If possible, go in the morning or at lunchtime to avoid a long wait to enter the house. In any case, the Monet Museum is worth a visit!

The prices at the bars and tourist establishments in Giverny are absurd. For example, we paid 9 euros for a slice of cake at the bar. So, stop to buy a snack at a supermarket or bakery along the way.
